£150,000 – £200,000 plus full benefits, bonuses and shares
Specialist Reinforced Concrete (RC) Frame & Groundwork Subcontractor
About the Opportunity:
This is a new opportunity. I am looking for someone who is either already a Construction Director / Operations Director that has a strong background working for rival RC frame and groundwork subcontractors in the UK, or someone who has hit a glass ceiling where they are and is in search of that next step up to Construction Director level because they are ready for it (again must be from a rival contractor though).
If you’ve worked in this sector at either of those levels, you’ll know what is involved in the day-to-day duties; Your position will sit on the board and will effectively report to the top of the business while overseeing the complete construction operations across 20-30 live sites where concrete frames and groundwork packages are being completed. You’ll be expected to oversee and develop the site-based management and teams, while integrating with the various clients of the business to make sure projects are carried out in the correct manner. And yes, while programme deadlines, budgets and safety on every site is crucial to any successful contractor in this field, you’ll also be one of the senior members of the team whose responsibility it is to develop client relationships and to make sure everything keeps moving in the right direction (and making improvements along the way too). I should highlight though; you won’t be doing it all alone. The team at this business is exceptional. Their preconstruction department, technical department, safety department, engineering department, commercial department and every other part of the business is full of exceptional people and some of the best directors of each of their chosen fields. So, you’ll be working with the best towards common goals, but to fit long term, you’ll be expected to be up for the task either straight away or with time and effort when you’re ready to fully step up.
About the Employer:
Having worked with this contractor for the past 10+ years I have seen them develop in both size and capability. They now currently turnover around £130 million per annum, building concrete frame and groundwork packages ranging in value up to £50 million each for a variety of residential and commercial contractors and developers throughout London and the surrounding Home Counties. They have a very modern edge to the business while maintaining traditional roots. I know each of the directors of this business and I would highly recommend them all as leaders in their own rights, but also as a family-like unit that bring out the best in each other.
On a personal note, I believe this company is one of the best not only for the projects they help complete and not only because of their size and general capability, but also because of the environment they create. They go that extra mile to not only retain their staff but to truly keep them happy. Small things have been added to the office like a gym that people have access to all day! They have a treatments room where massages and treatments are available to everyone on Fridays. All you have to do is book in. And with plans in place for a rooftop garden and BBQ area, I’d want to work here myself if I had the relevant experience! These little perks may not seem a lot in the grand picture, but hopefully, they go towards showing what type of employer this is (i.e., a business that takes the time to take care of their people and give a little back).
They really are a great company to work for and be part of. You can gain great project experience, to develop capability in modern construction techniques and you can be part of the values they believe in and a truly fantastic team.
About the Requirements:
To be successful I am looking for individuals who have worked in this position or who are ready for this position that have a strong background working for concrete frame & groundwork subcontractors (this is a must).
It has also been specified that I am only to consider people who have held stable periods of time with each employer as this position is important and my client only wants to consider people who are in it for the long run.
I would expect that individuals will either be degree qualified in civil engineering or construction management but I can consider people from a trades background if they have proven experience at this level already. In realistic terms, it’s not about just qualifications, its more about a proven ability to manage a whole construction division in this sector.
About the Remuneration:
This is a director-level role, where you will have ownership of your own department and a seat at the table to help influence the future of this business, so obviously, the package will fit the level of responsibility. So, I’m open to considering what people are currently on versus what they are looking for salary and benefits-wise.
There will also be the potential for the successful individual to earn a place on the board with all the benefits that come with that, as long as the successful candidate shows the capability in the role and gels on well with the team as part of the future of the business (this has been mentioned).
So, in short, if you are successful in getting this opportunity you’ll be paid well with benefits at every level down the road as well as ownership. All fantastic opportunities should offer fantastic rewards and this one does as well as the command of your own department!
About Me, Your Consultant:
My name is Andrew Jackson and I am one of the founding directors of Cityscape Recruitment Ltd. I have over 15 years of experience in civil engineering & construction recruitment, during which time, I have specialised in the niche sectors of concrete frames, groundworks, basement construction and demolition.
So, what does that mean for you? It means, I work with the vast majority of the groundwork & concrete frame businesses in the UK and I can help not only introduce you, but I can give you up to date information on each of them (the good parts and the less positive parts), helping you make an informed decision so you can take your career forward. I’ve been doing this for a fair while now and I’ve maintained a positive reputation doing what I do because I don’t tell people false truths, I tell them everything I know and then let them choose. My job is to get you the options, give you the information and then let you decide what feels right for you.
How to Apply:
I am more than happy to discuss this opportunity with people over the phone or face to face in a fully confidential manner (you can get to know me while I get to know you). And I know this is an incestuous sector and I fully understand the importance of keeping things discrete.
Alternatively, it would be ideal to see a copy of your CV to understand your previous experience and employment. In line with GDPR, nothing will be done with your CV/details until we have discussed the role in detail anyway, but having gained an understanding of your formal past, this may help when we come to talk and discuss the option.
