We urgently require a number Environmental Consultants to join a small, dynamic environmental and sustainability practice based out of their Head Office, primarily in the rail, infrastructure and construction sectors.

There is an immediate need for a team to work on an 80km section of HS2 between the Chilterns and Warwickshire, which includes 15 viaducts, 5km of green tunnels, 22km of road diversions, 67 overbridges and 30M.m3 of excavation.

All roles are home based, with infrequent visits to site or the project offices.

The positions would ideally suit Consultants with EIA experience, environmental design checking against the contractual requirements, or a general Environmental Advisors background.


Provide environmental coordination for a geographical section (G2S) of the proposed scheme to ensure environmental considerations are considered.

To understand the Environmental Minimum Requirements for proposed HS2 scheme and understand design changes (by attendance at design coordination meetings) to confirm that the changes are acceptable and pose no new significant risks.

Propose environmental improvement opportunities.

To provide an interface between the environmental team, the consents teams, Schedule 17 teams and design teams.

To attend internal meetings and external meetings with HS2, the JV Delivery Partners and understand the relevant outcomes that may affect the ASC scope.

To write reports that demonstrate environmental compliance, input into presentations.

Deliver short environmental presentations occasionally.

Support Project manager with identifying scope changes and staffing requirements/forecasts.

The following qualities/experience would be hugely beneficial:

5-10 years’ experience

Educated to degree or Masters level in an environmental related subject

Membership of an Environmental Institute such as IEMA or equivalent & relevant CSCS card

Ideal background

Large scale linear project experience (e.g. rail, highways or similar infrastructure projects).

Significant experience with either a consulting engineer, main civil engineering contractor or a specialist environmental contractor.

Experience of environmental design and mitigation

Broad experience of all aspects of environmental design and works and impacts on 3rd Parties

High standard of computer literacy
