Geotechnical Engineer – ( for ETRC/HRB asset)
A fantastic opportunity for a geotechnical engineer to join the design team for a complex major infrastructure project with many technical and commercial challenges
Responsible for performing geotechnical calculations and assessments, developing numerical soil structure interaction models, and producing the geotechnical design deliverables for the asset, with support from the design team and geotechnical design Lead.
Technical liaison with other disciplines (e.g. structural designers) and with other internal and external interfaces.
Perform ground movement assessment studies, provide input for inspection and maintenance plans and damage assessment studies for buildings, utilities, and existing infrastructure.
Help responding and raising Technical Queries and RFIs
Liaise with CAD/BIM modellers and guide the production of geotechnical drawings.
Technical report writing (e.g. GDR, GIR etc.), preparing and delivering formal presentations.
Identifying and keeping track of key design risks (including CDM and Geotechnical Risk Register), knowing when to escalate, having the confidence to make judgment calls and taking responsibility for them.Person Description
Geotechnical design experience in multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects in the UK and/or EU.
Advanced/Expert in pile design, retaining wall design, heave mitigation, drained and undrained analyses.
Construction experience and understanding, able to address constructability issues and queries from the client's construction team is a plus.
An excellent communicator who enjoys collaboration, sharing knowledge and learning from others.
Has confidence to make suggestions and identify design risks with vague information, able to propose reasonable assumptions if necessary, and willing to take responsibility for their work.
Good experience in using Plaxis 2D for staged construction and retaining wall analyses
Experienced with the following geotechnical design software: Oasys XDisp, Oasys PDisp, Oasys FREW.
Expert user of Microsoft Office suite (i.e. Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Teams, Sharepoint).
Experience with LS-Dyna is a plus.
Some experience with CAD software (e.g. Autocad, Microstation, AecoSim Bentley Navigator etc.) is a plus.
Programming skills using Python and/or VBA preferred.
Experience with Power BI preferred.
