Major Recruitment in Sheffield are currently recruiting for a Production Engineer/Machine Tool Setter to join our partners at their Tipton (West Midlands) site. This is a permanent position after a successful completion of a temp-to-perm arrangement.

The company are involved in the production of plastic and concrete products for the construction industry and have several site locations across the UK.

The role involves rotational shift patterns with the following hours:

Wk 1 – (Apply online only) Monday to Friday

Wk 2 – (Apply online only) Monday to Friday

Wk 3 – (Apply online only) Monday to Friday

Wk 4 – (Apply online only) Monday to Friday etc,etc.

All hours after 6pm will be paid at the higher rate.

The role:

1. To set, start up and produce quality extruded tubing and profiles to an agreed specification effectively and economically through continuous improvements and training procedures under the instruction of the production management team.

2. Receiving regular relevant information in written and verbal form from the production management team to enable you to set up and run products required by customers, with minimal downtime and scrap

3. To ensure all tooling required is available and is in a suitable condition for manufacture, tool changes are carried out as an engineer using the correct equipment and ensuring all changes are done efficiently, correctly and safely.

4. To ensure that material is available at the extrusion machine prior to production and that the material issued is from the correct supplier, is the correct colour and grade for the specific product about to be produced.

5. Ensure all material hoppers sre monitored and are kept filled when required and do not run out of material. thus preventing unneccesary scrap product and down time.

6. Ensure that the correct packaging for the product being manufactured is available at the extrusion line prior to commencement of production, ensure it is the correct type, i.e. cardboard carton, polythene sleeving, pallet or U-frame, and that the operator is aware of what the customer requires and the quantity per pack.

7. Take all neccesary steps to keep the shop floor in a clean and tidy condition at ALL times and that gangways, fire exits and shutter doors are kept clear and all aspects of personnel safety are adhered to in line with Health and Safety procedures.

8. To monitor the extrusion lines regularly during the shift and ensure products that are being manufactured are to the correct specification, quality is good and all the paperwork is being completed correctly, and that the information is being accurately recorded and is legible.

9. On a daily basis, record accurately all production manufactured during the shift, this information will be used to calculate profit and loss for the company during the week.

10. Ensure all machines are in a safe working condition by carryin out a Machine Safety Checklist using the sheet provided. Report any hazards or machine faults found immediately to either the General/Production Manager, or directly to the Maintenance Department and ensure action is taken.

11. Ensure extrusion machines, downstream equipment and shop floor are clean and tidy throughout and at the end of shifts on an ongoing basis.

12. On completion of each production run make sure all paperwork is completed and that gauges, packaging samples etc, are returned to their correct location.

Skills, Knowledge and Performamce Requirements Needed:

* Experience of working in a manufacturing environment

* Understanding of process flow

* Understanding of Health and Safety

* Good Communication Skills

* Drive and ambition to develop yourself and others

* Mechanical and Engineering Trained with Good Knowledge

* A background in Extrusion
