We are a leading manufacturer of a diverse and trusted range of concrete and clay building products used extensively within the construction sector, with instantly recognisable brands such as Thermalite blocks, London Brick, Ecostock, Cradley, Formpave and Jetfloor, Bison Precast.

Our product range comprises of clay bricks, Thermalite blocks, aggregate blocks, Red Bank chimney, roofing and flue systems, precast concrete and flooring products and Formpave permeable paving.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team in the position of Production Manager at Newbury.

The Role

The position provides Production Management control of the production and yard functions of the works with responsibility for meeting budget requirements, reporting, efficient and timely production, management of the employees including health and safety, maintenance, environmental controls and stewardship of the assets under control of the works.

The Candidate

* Plan, co-ordinate and manage all site activities in a safe, efficient and effective manner

* Manage the H&S aspects of the operation to meet and/or exceed legislative requirements and Company standards

* Develop and manage improvements in the capabilities and competencies of all staff so as to deliver improved operational performance in all areas

* Develop and implement new and improved operational practices in all aspects across the site without any detrimental aspect on H&S or production targets

* Control and manage operating costs within all areas so that KPI targets are achieved or improved.

* Control of finished stocks, packaging and raw materials.

* Develop/implement opportunities for cost reduction and minimization of waste

* Liaise regularly with other parts of the business to ensure we maximize site performance. This to include commercial, supply chain, logistics etc

* Undertake any relevant training as requested

* Oversee the management of all HR related activities; this includes sickness absenteeism, lateness and discipline in a consistent manner.

The role holder is expected:

* to comply with all aspects of the Forterra Compliance Policy

* to ensure that all the business/operations are performed in accordance with instructions and procedures and in such a way so as to prevent any fraudulent activities taking place

* to comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and to observe the requirements of the Company Safety Policy and other relevant legislation

* to update all areas of knowledge as required to carry out the job with maximum effectiveness and to attend training/development courses as and when required

* to comply will all aspects of the HR Policies and Procedures of the Company

* A Self-motivated individual with a manufacturing background

* Experience in a fast moving building materials environment would be ideal, but not essential

* The job holder will have had previous Managerial/supervisory experience and have ideally completed some form of formal management/supervisory training

* The role forms a key part of the HBP management team and hence the job holder is expected to contribute towards the development of the wider HBP operations.

* The role requires a high level of contact with internal/external departments and key customers therefore the job holder needs to have excellent communication skills and be able to develop good working relationships

* The role requires effective resource management skills to ensure efficient operation of the process

* The job holder needs to be able to combine production and operational capabilities and implement continuous improvement activities to deliver/exceed budget expectations

* The applicant would ideally have a minimum of an IOSH certificate in Safety Management; however not having this would not necessarily exclude a potential candidate

* To comply with all aspects of the Hanson Compliance Policy

* To ensure that all the business/operations are performed in accordance with instructions and procedures and in such a way so as to prevent any fraudulent activities taking place

Qualifications:

Relevant operational experience. H & S Qualification to IOSH Standards
