Quantity Surveyor – Portsmouth – £45k – £60k+bens

This Construction & Building Services Company have been established 20 years and carry out the delivery of a wide range of projects both in the UK and overseas, from simple small works to full-scale building construction.

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the team based from their Portsmouth office.


* To be an integral part of our specialist project team on both UK and global projects

* Conduct feasibility studies to estimate materials, time and labour costs

* Prepare tender documents, contracts, budgets, bills of quantities and supporting documentation as part of the Tender process within our wider Team

* Procure or agree the services of contractors and/or subcontractors

* Monitor and control the day-to-day finance of secured projects up to and including production of final accounts.

* Track changes to the design and/or construction work and adjust budget projections accordingly

* Coordination of work effort – preparing detailed forward plans of work commitments and appropriate labour requirements

* Procure or agree the services of contractors and/or subcontractors who work on the construction of the project

* Advising on a range of legal, contractual and dispute resolution issues

* Valuing completed work and arranging for payments

* Formulation and presentation of monthly valuations to Clients

Qualifications and Key Skills Required

* A BTEC in Building Studies, Building Engineering or Building Management or a HNC / HND / Degree in Quantity Surveying.

* A minimum of three years’ experience of managing the commercial aspects of construction projects.

* Membership to the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) desirable.

* Experience of NEC & JCT Suite of Contracts is essential.

* Analytical thinking skills & excellent attention to detail.

* Understanding of building construction, engineering, science and technology.

* Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel & Word with a knowledge on the use of Microsoft Project (or similar) is desirable.

* A clear understanding of construction regulations and legal guidelines.

* Good financial and numeracy management skills.

* Excellent communication and negotiating skills.

* There will be the requirement to travel overseas but this will be infrequent and short term, mainly pricing a project.
