Tunnel Precast Plant Engineer

Carmichael are seeking an experienced site/section engineer to start immediately with a tier 1 company on the HS2 line in Hertfordshire. 

The Tunnel Precast Plant Engineer is responsible for coordinating, managing, and supervising all the mechanical activities on site, Tunnel precast factory and Maintenance which is working in a shift pattern.

An important part of the job will be to take over the GMAO management to support the rest of the Tunnel plant department in the task and implementation of the system for the correct use and development of the same.


Active involvement in the day-by-day activities related to the maintenance of the Tunnel precast facility and all the equipment involved, including segment yard gantry cranes.

Involvement in the specifications of any new equipment or need to come up to improve the facilities.

Involvement in the realization of the RAMs and involvement in its agreement on field activities.

Involvement in the maintenance of all the mechanical items used in the Tunnel Precast Factory is in operation & Maintenance. (GMAO usage).

Responsible for ensuring an adequate supply of materials, tools and equipment to ensure minimisation of mechanical breakdowns supply down time and optimisation of production.

Responsible for requiring the necessary spares and consumables for the effective operation and maintenance in the factory.

Responsible for maintaining accurate records of work undertaken, spares and consumables used in respect of the mechanical items in the Tunnel precast factory using computerized system available on site. Familiarization of the system will be provided on site. (GMAO usage)

Involvement with Surface mechanical superintendent and workshop manager to organize the erection, commissioning & start up, maintenance operation in a dully way of any equipment to be installed in the facility.

Support to the Surface Mechanical superintendent in any necessary task and works to be done.

Coordination with the precast Maintenance superintendent in order to organize the tasks ahead.

Skills & Experience


The role will require the post holder to have excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal and to be able to report at management level.

Strong mechanical background.

Capacity of people management.

Mandatory CSCS Minimum Level 3.

Troubleshooting skills.

Hydraulics knowledge.

Familiar with heavy lifting equipment and operations.

Maintenance of mechanical equipment on a launching girder as: Pneumatic greases pumps. Pneumatic systems. Maintenance units for pneumatic systems. Maintenance units for hydraulic systems and Maintenance electric systems


Previous experience in a similar role, preferably within the construction industry;

Demonstrate experience of managing the works of others and monitoring the quality and safety of their works.

Previous experience in a segment precast factory using carrousels

A working knowledge of the: Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Construction Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations 1996, Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007, Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and other relevant legislation

This role is inside IR35 paid PAYE. Rates are negotiable
